Holders Sugar Plantation was operative until the mid 60’s and was then owned by the Hon. Janet Kidd. Her son, Johnny, became interested in polo and encouraged his mother to let the Barbados Polo Club have a field at Holders. Initially, she leased the field to the Club but later sold it for a small fee of bds. $24,000 with an agreement that the field would only be used for equestrian sports.

The Polo Grounds at Polo Ridge are well known among the polo playing set around the world. It plays host to many famous polo playing celebrities, including some of the British Royal family.

The main polo season is between January and May each year but the most important matches take place in March.
